George P. Roniger, Ph.D.
Economic Development & Public Finance Analysis
George P. Roniger, Ph.D. has more than 30 years of extensive experience as an economist in the worlds of banking, government and academia.
Most recently, he was Assistant Deputy State Comptroller for New York City where he was responsible for monitoring the finances and auditing the agencies of the City of New York. Before that, he was employed by Citibank for 23 years where he Chief Economist and directed the Corporate Public Finances Issues and Regional Economics Departments. In these positions, he advised the board of directors and senior management on New York economic and fiscal issues.
Dr. Roniger has been widely quoted in the media on regional economic and fiscal issues. He has published numerous articles on municipal economics and finance. He has served as an advisor to the Temporary State Commission on New York City Finances, the Panel of Health Economists of the New York State Health Department and the Governor’s Task Force on Unemployment. He has served as a director of the Regional Plan Association, the New York City Council on Economic Education, and the Executive Committee of the Association for a Better New York and as Chairman of the Research and Marketing Committee of the New York State Bankers Association.
As a consultant, he has advised municipal unions and participated in marketing and feasibility studies for a range of commercial development projects in the New York area.
Earlier in his career, Dr. Roniger was an economist with the Federal Reserve System and the U.S. Tariff Commission. He was an instructor in Economics at Lafayette College and has recently been an adjunct professor at the Graduate School of Business at Pace University.
Dr. Roniger is a graduate of Queens College and earned his Ph.D. in Economics at Columbia University.
