Roy Fedelum, B.A.
Urban Planning and Demography
Roy Fedelem has more than thirty years of experience in urban planning and demographics. Roy graduated from the State University of New York at Geneseo with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Geography and Urban Planning.
Mr. Fedelem started his professional career with Wilbur Smith and Associates in Texas as a mapmaker and demographer. Subsequently, he relocated to Suffolk County as a Planner and Demographer, where he worked for the rest of his career for both the Long Island Regional Planning Board and the Suffolk County Planning Department as Principal Planner and Demographer. As the Section Head for the Planning and Research Division of the Suffolk County Planning Department, Mr. Fedelem has been involved in a broad range of numerous planning studies including: residential housing developments, industrial developments; and County, Town, and Village master plans. More specifically, Mr. Fedelem has done a large number of studies for the Villages of Patchogue, Port Jefferson, Babylon, Islandia and other villages. He has also been involved in generating population statistics and studies for many of the school districts in Suffolk County.
On the commercial side of the planning process, Mr. Fedelem has completed studies evaluating malls, shopping centers, office buildings, and industrial developments.
Mr. Fedelem also led the New York State Data Center Affiliate for Long Island. He is one of the foremost experts on United States Census data and its applications to Long Island and the region. He is knowledge about data availability, technical issues related to data, and how to apply them to the planning process. For example, he developed the Long Island Economic Distress Index, which compares and ranks all places and all census tracts on Long Island by a host of economic variables. The County of Suffolk, towns and developers use the index extensively.

- 2008 Groundwater Management Study: Comprehensive Land Use Analysis.
- School District Studies for Mount Sinai, Northport, Port Jefferson, Three Village, and other districts.
- Long Island Master Plan: Commercial and Industrial Development Segments.
- The Journey to Work to Major Employment Centers.
- Census reports on Age, Housing, Geography, Income, Population, Race and Senior Citizens.
- Coordination of the Census for the County.
